Fabricated temporary cone, basket, or plate strainers are designed for initial start-up and should not be used as a permanent straining solution in place of Y-strainers, basket strainers, tee strainers, or duplex basket strainers.

Keckley fabricated temporary cone and basket strainers are constructed of a heavy gauge perforated plate with drilled holes on off-set centers to catch debris in pipelines during start-up. Temporary cone or basket strainers can be fabricated to any length in many different types of metals or alloys. Standard lengths are 100% or 150%. This refers to the open area of the cone or basket to the cross section of the inlet pipe.

Temporary basket strainers are shorter in length than temporary cone strainers. Temporary cone or basket strainers can be supplied with mesh lining on the inside or outside of the cone or basket depending upon the orientation of the cone or basket to the flow of the media. Temporary basket strainers will have a slightly higher pressure loss across them than temporary cone strainers. Temporary plate strainers will have the highest pressure drop.

Special reinforcing rings and supports can be installed to maintain integrity of the cone or basket for heavy load applications where the differential pressure will exceed 20-30 psi.
